Does it take a person or a phone call to remind your senior to eat?
- Possibly they have no idea if it is lunchtime unless someone rings the doorbell (and they can hear it) and delivers a meal and a little polite conversation. ”MEALS on WHEELS” (MOW) does a great job of delivering hot meal or hot meal + sandwich to the ”homebound”. These volunteers provide not only the meal but they are also checking in on your loved one. If no one answers the door, you will get a phone call so you can make certain they are ok. MOW will also leave frozen meals for weekends and holidays if your loved one has the ability to heat it up. If a frozen meal does not work ”Sandwiches with a Side” are available and can be kept in the refrigerator for the weekend. They may have to check with the catering company to see if this is possible.
- If you have bread and sandwich meat in their refrigerator and you see that it is not being used . . . sometimes they don’t remember how to make a sandwich.
If they are not able to use appliances a family member, friend or local delivery may be able to help out also
- Could a family member or friend invite them for a meal?
- What about ordering a delivery from a local restaurant that is reliable?
Many communities also have ”Senior Centers” that offer lunch for a reasonable fee. Along with lunch there will be many other seniors like yourself to talk with.
Senior Centers offer many different activities and usually have a calendar of event available.
